If you are going to limit yourself to 2 shots, why in the world would you go for .380?

Well, .380 is a damn sight better than .41 Rimfire, and this derringer isn't more than 90 years old and can be left in a pocket without much adverse effects...

True, but 9MM is more potent, loaded in more varieties, and likely more available (I don't know for a fact, but a friend of mine said 380 is getting hard to find, around here anyway).

The .380 would be softer for recoil for those that require it, but would it be that much softer than 9MM or, perhaps, .38 SPL?

For me,, I would like the .380 as a backup to my backup..
(same ammo as the P3AT)

otherwise, yes it's a wussy caliber compared to real calibers (.38, 9mm, .40, .45, etc)

Just shooting the breeze here, but a 2 shot deringer in .410 would be a great back up/bad breath distance gun.

Personally, I'll take my SW 640 in .38 SPL instead of the deringer. A speed strip might be slow, but trying to reload that 2 shooter would be worse!

Yes, I know it just a back up. But if you are trying to defend against 2 muggers you might find yourself in need of another shot or two (a 3 shot derringer?! Very Happy ).

My little .44 Charter Bulldog takes up just a little more room.
And, it has five shots.
Barrel is just long enough to be a good handle when it becomes "Club Time" too.
After all my rounds are expended, if the Zombies are still active, I will use the Ninja knives and then pull out the concealed Claymore.
When that one breaks, I can still resort to my "weighted" cane/walking stick.
All else fails, I will try the "shoe leather" approach.
Hopefully to "Live to fight another day!" WinkA Bear

To quote the Fench Army field manual: The army that flees, lives!

I like my CA .44 Bulldog as well. Nice and light to carry and packs a heckuva whomp!

Ever watch Austin Powers? I love the part where is asked what he is going to do when his plan fails.

"First, I intend to soil myself. Then I am going to regroup and come up with a new plan." UT

I'll stick with my Kel-tec, but this would beat nothing.

While not strictly authentic, I would use it as a costume accessory for CAS events, although I would probably choose a different caliber.

I was opening up birthday presents one year, and, the wife bought me a Davis derringer in 22wrm. What can you say but,,thanks. After testing it with the tmc (fmj) 40 gr. it has a muzzle V of 1,000 fps for nearly 90ft/lbs energy, cut thru 3 milk jugs full of water and kept going. That translates to a nasty gunshot wound. The trigger pull is heavy, saftey iffy, sights poor, the bottom barrel isnt quite drilled straight (it shoots down and to the right) and keyholes some of the rounds it doesnt like. And is tedious to reload. But it drops in a pocket, goes places when i'm too lazy to carry a gun. Beats a sharp stick hands down. I would imagine the 380 is similar. A derringer in the pocket beats an IDPA rig in the closet. Hey Paladin got great results with his lil 38.
