|

Hello folks, new to the site as well as being a new ccw holder. I have a question as to trigger pull and which weapon offers a lighter pull, I ask because I have arthritis in my hands and pulling a stiff trigger is tough for me. I really don't want to go into a smaller carry such as a 22 or 32 but have my heart set on a Ruger 357 revolver but will consider a semi if it would be a easier on my condition. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

there is a real good question
the semi might be a poor choice if your grip strength is an issue..
So in your case I think a revolver is the way to go
I recently shot the new Ruger LCR and it's trigger is very smooth, but not 'easy'.. it is a double action revolver, so it does have a long trigger pull
give that one a try and see if it's comfortable _________________ Those who adapt control the future

| I agree auto's can be tough for arthritic hands. I like S&W J frames nothing wrong with Ruger though. |

Thanks for the reply guy's, I'll stick with my original plan of purchasing a revolver. Another question i have is can a resolvers trigger mechanism be altered by a gunsmith to lighten the pull pressure? I'm doing a lot of Internet research and have my sites set on a Ruger GP 100 357 with a 4" barrel, have any of you had the experience og firring this gun or any feedback from an owner?
Again thanks and I'll definitely stop at the Broadway store to have a look at your inventory and say hello.

Hello, and i see you have no rank so you are really new or just visiting, but welcome!
These guys are rigt, my friend is a W2 CID with the army, and his issue is a sig saur 9mm, probably one of the best semi autos around, and it IS a double action, but, he told me that with one in the chamber and the hamer foreward that first pull can be a pain, and he joked that the first round is almost a throw away round because of that. (he was joking... sort of) and he is 35 in good shape and NO arthritis.
Now thr Ruger. MAN, I love those GP 100 AND the SP101, the GP comes with the rubber outer/ wood grain inner grips, thats the only thing I like better about the GP, I think they cost the same so check them both out., but while your there, just for grins hold a S&W 686, or a 686-7 shot-4 inch , you will notice the S&W is more barrel heavy, and the ruger is more handle heavy making the ruger almost pop into a level position automatically. where a S&W seems to automatically point at a guys feet. LOL I always noticed that. I like the ruger balance alot more than a smith.
I have owned and fired both, a ruger GP100 but it was a 6", a S&W 4" model 19, and model 10, and an airlight snubbie, I liked them all in different ways, but of all of them, I regret selling my ruger the most. it was a very smooth firing gun. ( It was also the only one of the three full sizers that was stainless) Oh and yes a gunsmith can lighten the pull. the guy that owns the shop i go to carries a S&W 686-7 non fluted whoopty-do pistola and the pull straight off his hip is like a quarter pound. (I exaggerate but its really light even with the hammer foreward) _________________ Why is it when a gun accident happens its the fault of the gun, and ammunition manufacturers and wholesalers, but when a drunk driver kills a family of 4 nobody goes after budweiser? Or chevy, ford or whatevr they were driving. |

| No pun intended but I pulled the trigger and made the purchase of the GP 100. Thanks for the responses, they were very helpful, nice to find a site like this with other gun owners willing to take the time to help. Now it's off to the range to practice. |

I think this may be a thread hijack (if so, EVERYONE STAY IN YOUR SEATS!!! )
My all time favorite carry revolver was a stainless Smith and Wesson model 66, 3 inch barrel, .357 mag. I used to load it with 38SPL +P and that little guy delivered the goods everytime.
And then I fell to the Sirens of "oh, you can get an alloy frame that will be SOOO much lighter to carry. To add the cherry to this miserable tale, I traded the Mod 66 for a gun I grew to hate in just 6 months.

Took the new Ruger to the range and did a quick 50 rounds, only 2 out of the kill zone. The feel was like a pat of butter gliding across a hot ear of corn, love the feel of this weapon. Can anyone give me advice as to purchasing 357 target rounds here in Tucson and what should I expect to pay ?
The next one on the wish list will be the Bursa 380, from what I see on the gun sights the Bersa is a hot commodity. Anyone out there use this as a carry and what's your opinion. [/list] |

I am not such a fan of them
Fine guns I guess, but lots of sharp edges and levers
I prefer a DAO for defense
Kahr is now my favorite .380
Followed by Ruger LCP and Keltec P3AT
All small smooth and reliable _________________ Those who adapt control the future
