Ever make a gun purchase you later regretted? An impulse buy? Something you saw in a movie or on a gun show table that looked really cool, but, in the real world, you realized was just plain.. well, silly? C'mon, 'fess up! I'll even start:
1. Cobray M-11, 9mm. Hollywood got me on this one. The Mac-10 was a popular weapon in movies in the early '80s. Without a wire stock, though, (which would have made it illegal), the rear aperture sight was nearly useless when the gun was held normally. The top cocking knob made it impossible to mount an optical sight. The threaded barrel accepted a vented barrel extension or a dummy suppressor. It looked cool, but, in reality, it was just a heavy, awkward pistol that was uncomfortable to shoot and offered no advantage over a high-cap 9mm.

2. Detonics Pocket 9. Detonics was well known for their excellent "chopped and channeled" .45s. In theory, their idea of a pocket size 9mm was a good one, but the execution was terrible. It used a delayed blowback action with a massive, thick heavy slide. It had a horrible heavy double action only trigger and the grips were flat machined aluminum with no contouring or palm swell, making it absolutely painful to shoot. 3. Bravermann "stinger" pen gun. I had James Bond fantasies when I first laid eyes on one of these. It unfolded into a single shot pistol. Although called a "pen pistol" it was closer in size to a mini Maglight and twice as heavy. It was slow into action, had a funky trigger that you had to push UP to fire, no sights, and you had to unscrew the barrel to reload it. Mine was in .25 acp. When I tried a MagSafe round in it, it locked up so bad that I had to bring it to a gunsmith to get the barrel unscrewed. 4. NAA Mini Revolver .22lr. It almost pains me to include this gun. They are beautiful (especially with rosewood grips), well made little guns, but I can't shoot them worth a damn. I could barely get two fingers around the tiny birdhead grip and it nearly twisted out of my hand with each shot. At any distance longer than arm's length, my best chance of hitting the target would have been to throw the tiny revolver. I kept it for years, but finally gave up and traded it fore something more practical

Back in the late 60s a friend showed me his latest acquisition.
"Let's go SHOOT it!"
.44 Mag derringer.
Bruised my palm something viscious.
He said, "It did that to me too, I'm going to trade it off."
Few days later he shows up with a .357 Mag derringer.
Same story, on the same bruised spot in my palm.
Then there were the little Belgium revolvers in .38 S&W.
Nice compact little tools, mostly well engineered.
But the caliber was anemic, in my opinion.

Ditto's on the Mac11!
CZ52 in 7.62X25. Power house of a pistol, but a horrid grip angle and, well, just plain ugly!
Stainless Rossi revolver in .41 magnum. Looked good, shot fine, but just kept bothering me about Rossi quality. Sold at a loss after 2 months.
Jennings .380 pocket pistol. Bought it for $60, but it was bulky and heavy for caliber (plus the extractor retention pin kept backing out). Lost $25 peddling it just to get rid of it after I bought my AMT Backup.
3 (count 'em 3!) Ballister Molina's in .45ACP. One liked to jam on HP, one couldn't hit a barn standing inside it, and the other was a real good gun. Just so you know, I bought the good one first but sold it to a friend. Bought a NEF Single shot .450 Marlin at a gun show. Have had and liked .45-70s thought what the heck a mag version of that. It was unconfortable to shoot(poor stock design for my body) when I bought it ammo was expensive to the point of painful. I'm not actually a dumb person. I'm actually reasonably bright.
But getting excited about my 1st .38 revolver(!!!) flustered me enough to misread the top of the gun...so I bought .38 specials for my .38 short Colt...because I have moronic moments----and I was a little short on ammunition spanning beyond .22 LR and 20 gauge..... _________________ BRTucker |

Another confession, bad purchase.
Replica Sharps 4 bbl derringer, .22 LR.
Rotating firing pin that was cheap crap and kept breaking.

A good friend hit me up for a C note, and put up a new in the box henry ar-7 so deal. That is by far the worst weapon ever made. It wont fire, feed, it wont even work as a boat anchor, it floats. I sent it back to the company, they broke the stock and knocked the front sight loose.
